A creature comic

By coincidence (maybe..?) here's another comic.  This was a really really fun assignment for school.  I had so much more planned for this comic but I had to really reel myself in and try to go simpler because of time restraints (to varying degrees of success).  I had planned to go into more detail on this once it was handed in but I think I like it enough this way to leave it alone for a while longer... while I do some more work on my portfolio and our 3rd year film.

I like making comics.

Group Film stuff part 2

A poster design concept for our film "Chital"
From here on out all group film stuff will be labeled "Chital" since that's the working title for our film.  Or maybe "Stag and Doe productions" since that's our production name. I designed our logo.
Stag and Doe Productions, fantastic logo.

Pitch Package is handed in and it looks pretty great. We ended up having a lot of stuff so it was hard to pick which concept pieces to put in but I guess that's a pretty great problem to have.  But our visual development stage is far from over so I doodled a BG idea for our film.  I'm not really a layout person so I just did something simple and mostly focused on colour theory (and just generally played around in photoshop).  I'm always embarrassed by my mediocre layouts and had doing them/sharing them... but you can't improve if you don't keep trying. Right?

Group Film stuff part1.

3rd year well under way.  Group film stuff going pretty good, in my opinion. We're in major development stage now.
Sketches of our heroine, who may or may not be called Pavarti (I call her Pav).

One of our very talented group mates did a unified character sketch based on our multiple designs (to help the boards look more unified) and I felt like giving version01_Pav a try:

I'm planning on adding colour when I get a chance. Now I'm off to my last shift in a minimum wage position... hopefully forever.

Marko Fan Art

I've been looking to my favourite comic for inspiration. Why doesn't everyone read "Saga"(by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples) it's so incredibly and beautifully illustrated!

Read it!

A little preview

Oh man, isn't this crazy?! I've been working on something the last few days and it's really exciting and pretty cool to see it coming together. It's a webcomic I'm working on with my boyfriend. I feel like I'm a really slow worker but I'm also figuring out this new software at the same time so maybe I'll be able to pick up the pace once I know my way around Manga Studio a bit better.

The comic doesn't have a name yet but it's a SciFi story, which is very new to me (usually more of a fantasy, supernatural girl myself). I hope to have something for people to read really soon, as soon as I'm able!

True Blood doodle

I've been rewatching True Blood lately... Until yesterday when the DVD player in my old TV/DVD/VCR finally just stopped working... While I was watching the last episode of season 1... DVD players are cheap now, right?
Anyways, I doodled a Bill Compton the other day.

Fire guy doodle

A doodle of a fire guy with fire hair. Playing around with colouring technique.
Why do I always notice things I want to change just as I'm posting?

inspired by real life

A twitter conversation between my step-sister and my Dad about her finding a bug in her couch resulted in my Dad making a typo while suggesting she get some bug spray before she resorted to burning the couch.  Which in turn resulted in this, my contribution:
Like my twitter bio says: "Typo's happen". (Love ya, Dad).

TCAF mini note.

I went to TCAF on Subday and it was excellent. I wish I had had a bit more time or had known more of the artists and their works. It was such a great meeting of artistic talent all together in one building! I hugged Marlo Meekins and got to shake Nick Cross's hand! I blabbered like a nervous insecure little artist (which I was so I guess it was appropriate) but they were both very nice to me. I wish I had been able to go on Saturday so I could have met Bill Amend. There were only 2 things I regret not buying and a few things I regret not having enough money for.

Going out and doing things is very rewarding, you should almost always do it.

Beak Sync Animation

My last Animation of the year.  (My muzzle sync animation is barely visible on YouTube so I won't bother posting it here until I can make it watchable...somehow)

I was very proud of my animation work this year. Animation used to be my most challenging class and I never thought I would get the hang of it.  I said I hated animating and had completely written it off as a career option.  This year I had 2 animations in the "Highlight Reel" (this one and the muzzle sync).

My main focus for the summer is to hopefully get more comfortable with digital animation software.  I just want to animate.

Bioshock Infinite -Elizabeth WIP

School's finished for the year so I have no one telling me what to draw for a few months.

I feel I'm really amateur when it comes to making art digitally so I've really got to buckle down and learn my way around a tablet.  That's my plan for the summer... but as determined as I am, that big white screen is still pretty intimidating...

A couple of failed doodles later and I had a fun Elizabeth drawing.  Now I'm not sure how I want to go about fleshing it out. I laid down some flat base colours and I kind of like the effect alone but I don't think it's the right feel for what I saw in my head...

Some birdie frames

Working on my last animation of this year and probably my last animation on paper... Since no one works that way anymore. Which really makes me sad since I just can't get the right effect with computers. Oh well.

This little guy's so cute. I love animating him and making him make funny faces. If I could go back in time and tell first year me how much I would love animation I would not believe future me.

old art faerie

Whoa this one's older! An Art faerie! I drew a whole bunch of these guys but only coloured this one.
I think I was going to put some sort of title or something in the negative space there...
Those wings came out nicely.

Korra doodle

Clearing out some stuff, I found a doodle I did of Korra. I think one of the first.

Yay some art

Sandford, my bratty kitty.  He sleeps in the most adorable positions. He's easier to paint because he's mostly one colour, but Eggo, my calico girl, gets sketched more because she's not as fluffy..

I found a lot of unfinished pieces on my computer.  I have some trouble finishing things it seems...

I spent most of the day animating something for school.  I'm a slow animator. :( I would post a WIP but it's almost finished anyways so I'll just post the final when it's done, hopefully tomorrow.

Drawing Music

I'm not a huge music person. I usually listen to soundtracks or just instrumental stuff. I kind of rely on finding things I like through other people. I don't think I really know what I like enough to go out looking for stuff.

Someone posted this video (Too Afraid to Love you-Live) on their Tumblr and I listened to it like a million times in a row.

I'd ideally rather have almost complete silence to work but it's noisy in the studio at school and when I need to get down to work and drown out the chatter I listen to two Black Keys albums I own on repeat.

Anyways, I'm still drawing but not posting. Not very helpful.

I guess this post is just for me.

Let's keep this first post simple.

Hi.  I'm Alexis.

This will be my Art blog.

I talk too much and that's probably not why people will be visiting this site so I'll try to keep the chatter to a minimum.

Looking forward to posting things for people to look at.
